Dear Black Mothers,
As Mother's Day approaches, I want to take a moment to honor and celebrate us, the backbone of our communities, the nurturers, the caregivers, and the unsung heroes whose strength and resilience inspire us all.
In a world that often overlooks our contributions and underestimates our worth, I see you, I see us, I see me. I see the countless sacrifices we make each day to provide for our children, to protect them, and to instill in them the values of perseverance and determination. Our love knows no bounds, transcending generations and overcoming obstacles with unwavering grace.
I want to acknowledge the weight we carry on our shoulders, the burden of systemic injustices, and the intergenerational trauma that we navigate with remarkable resilience. Raising our children is a journey filled with joys, challenges, and countless moments of growth. However, for us, this journey often comes with its own set of complexities shaped by historical, social, and cultural factors. Despite facing adversity at every turn, we rise above it, showing unwavering strength and courage in the face of adversity.
Our strength lies not only in our ability to persevere but also in our capacity for love and compassion. We are the heart and soul of our families, the pillars of strength that hold them together through life's storms. Our wisdom, our resilience, and our unwavering faith inspire us all to be better, to do better, and to strive for a brighter future.
On this Mother's Day, I want to remind you of the importance of self-care and the value of rest. I know that taking time for yourself may feel like a luxury, but it is a necessity. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and your well-being matters just as much as anyone else's. Take a moment to pause, to breathe, and to replenish your spirit. You deserve it.
So, to all the Black mothers out there, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your love, your sacrifice, and your unwavering strength. Thank you for all that you do, day in and day out, to nurture and support your families. You are valued, you are appreciated, and you are loved more than words can express.
This Mother's Day, may you find moments of joy, peace, and rest. May you be surrounded by love and appreciation, and may you know that your strength and resilience are an inspiration to us all.
With heartfelt gratitude and admiration,
Shayla, also a black mama🖤❤️
